In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services. Synopsis: An audit report by the Department of Defense Inspector General found that KBR overcharged the U.S. Navy on contracts to provide support services in the aftermath of Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina. According to the audit, the Navy paid approximately $4.1 million for meals and services that should have cost $1.7 million and inappropriately paid a markup on material and equipment totaling $7.2 million. The report recommended the Navy seek a refund from KBR for the inappropriate payments.
