April 2010 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill — Gulf of Mexico Early Restoration

BP Exploration and Production, Inc., promised to provide $1 billion for early oil spill restoration efforts in the Gulf of Mexico pursuant to an agreement with the Department of the Interior, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the five states bordering the Gulf. The money will be divided among the states, Interior, and NOAA to restore coastal marshes, beaches, and barrier islands and conserve ocean habitat. The agreement does not absolve BP of legal liability for the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion and spill that occurred in 2010.
