Northumberland Safety Breach

The UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) fined BAE Systems Global Combat Systems Munitions Limited £80,000 (US$131,000) for a serious safety breach after a worker was injured while test firing a gun on a range in Northumberland in April 2008. The employee was seriously injured when a metal bolt ejected from the back of the gun and into his left leg. BAE, which pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, was also ordered to pay £100,000 (US$163,000) in costs.
