Violations of Classified Information Requirements at Sandia National Laboratories

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) issued a Preliminary Notice of Violation (PNOV) to Lockheed Martin subsidiary Sandia Corporation for violations of Department of Energy classified information security program requirements at Sandia National Laboratories. The PNOV cited six violations of classified information security requirements related to a security event in which Sandia failed to perform required classification reviews, improperly controlled and disclosed classified information, permitted introduction of classified information into unapproved information systems, and conducted an inadequate security incident inquiry. Additional violations related to Sandia’s causal analysis and self-assessment processes. NNSA cited four Severity Level I violations and two Severity Level II violations with a total proposed civil penalty of $577,500.
