Day, et al. v. Johns Hopkins Health System (Black Lung Compensation Lawsuit)

A class action lawsuit accuses Johns Hopkins Hospital of intentionally defrauding hundreds of coal miners suffering from black lung disease out of compensation and health benefits. The lawsuit alleges that, for decades, a radiology unit at the hospital provided coal companies X-ray readings falsely stating that the patient did not have black lung, allowing the companies to avoid paying benefits under a federal program. The lawsuit alleges fraud, unjust enrichment, and violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).
