Wellogix v. Accenture (Misappropriation of Trade Secrets)

Software company Wellogix accused Accenture of stealing its source code. Wellogix entered into marketing agreements with Accenture to develop “complex services software” for the oil industry. Wellogix shared source code and access to its technology with Accenture, subject to confidentiality agreements. According to the lawsuit, Accenture and another company began developing software for oil company BP by accessing Wellogix’s source code in violation of the confidentiality agreements. A jury found in favor of Wellogix and awarded $26.2 million in compensatory damages and $68.2 million in punitive damages (later reduced to $18.2 million).
