Burgess et al. v. Exxon Mobil (Mayflower, Arkansas Oil Spill)

A class-action lawsuit was filed against Exxon Mobil on behalf of owners of property abutting Lake Conway in Arkansas. The plaintiffs allege the spill of heavy crude oil resulting from the March 29, 2013 rupture of the Pegasus Pipeline contaminated the lake. The plaintiffs claim Exxon knew the pipeline was unsafe and defective, particularly with regard to this particular type of oil, which is also known as Tar Sands or bitumen. They also accuse Exxon of concealing or distorting the nature and extent of the spill, the chemical contents of the pipeline, and the company’s response to the spill.
