Clery Act Violations

Several Johns Hopkins University students submitted a complaint to the U.S. Department of Education alleging administrators failed to timely notify the campus community of an alleged sexual assault that occurred near campus in March 2013, in violation of the Jeanne Clery Act. The Baltimore City Police Department investigated several members of a school fraternity for an alleged gang rape, which the students allege the school did not disclose on its security incident reports. (The Clery Act requires universities receiving federal aid to report crimes within two business days on a public crime log and issue timely warnings about crimes which pose a serious or ongoing threat to students and employees.) One student also alleges that an administrator dissuaded her from reporting a sexual assault.
