Chantix Products Liability Litigation

Purchasers of Pfizer’s smoking cessation drug Chantix (varenicline) claim that Chantix causes depression and other psychiatric disorders, including suicides and attempted suicides. They claim that Pfizer either knew or should have known about the side effects and failed to adequately warn consumers. In October 2012, Pfizer began settling many of the thousands of claims filed in federal and state courts around the country. Terms of the settlements were kept confidential, but Pfizer reported in its financial filings that it had assumed a loss of approximately $273 million in settling the cases.
