Promotion of Postmenopausal Drugs in Nevada

Pfizer paid $9.5 million to settle claims by the State of Nevada that Pfizer and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Pfizer in 2009) unlawfully promoted certain postmenopausal hormone therapy drugs and misled consumers and physicians about the safety and efficacy of those drugs. Pfizer agreed to make an $8 million donation to the University of Nevada School of Medicine and the University Medical Center to fund women’s health care programs and pay the Nevada attorney general’s office $1.5 million for the costs of its investigation.
