Illegal Online Pharmacy Non-Prosecution Agreement

UPS entered into a non-prosecution agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California in which UPS agreed to forfeit $40 million in payments it received from illegal online pharmacies, and to implement a compliance program designed to ensure that online pharmacies will not be able to use UPS’s services to break the law. From 2003 through 2010, UPS knew that Internet pharmacies were using its services to distribute controlled substances and prescription drugs without valid prescriptions but did not implement procedures to close the shipping accounts of these businesses.
