Incorrect Nuclear Facility Hazard Categorization at Argonne National Lab

The Department of Energy (DOE) issued a consent order to UChicago Argonne, LLC, relating to the incorrect nuclear facility hazard categorization of Building 205 G-Wing at the Argonne National Laboratory in March 2013. The incorrect hazard categorization was attributable to the failure to comprehensively account for all facility radiological material, including holdup and facility contamination. DOE imposed a $298,920 contract fee reduction in response to the incident.
