Classified Information Security Event at Los Alamos National Lab

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) issued a Preliminary Notice of Violation (PNOV) to Los Alamos National Security, LLC (LANS) for violations of Department of Energy classified information security program requirements at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. The PNOV cited three violations of classified information security requirements related to a security event in which LANS lost control of classified matter. The violations related to security incident inquiries, control of classified matter, and self-assessments. NNSA cited two Severity Level I violations and one Severity Level II violation with a total proposed civil penalty of $247,500.
