Faulty Ignition Switches – Civil Litigation Settlement

General Motors announced it had settled 1,380 pending wrongful death and personal injury lawsuits stemming from a massive recall of vehicles in 2014 due to a defective ignition switch. GM reported it would record a $575 million charge against its earnings in the three months ending September 30, 2015, in connection with the civil litigation settlement and the settlement of a related shareholder class action (see General Motors instance, “Faulty Ignition Switches – Shareholder Lawsuit Settlement”).
