Irvine, Scotland Health and Safety Violation
Smithkline Beecham Limited, the parent company of GlaxoSmithKline, was fined £55,000 (US$67,587) for a health and safety violation following an explosion at its plant in Irvine, Scotland in July 2013 that injured two employees. Smithkline Beecham pleaded guilty to a charge under health and safety legislation relating to a failure to “identify suitable and sufficient control measures to reduce, as far as reasonably practical” the risks involved in its use and handling of various chemicals.
