U.S. et al. ex rel. Robinson v. Indiana University Health et al. (False Claims, Kickbacks)

Indiana University Health Inc. (IU Health) and HealthNet settled allegations that they violated federal and state false claims laws and the Anti-Kickback Statute by engaging in an illegal kickback scheme related to the referral of HealthNet’s OB/GYN patients to IU Health’s Methodist Hospital. From May 2013 through August 2016, IU Health allegedly provided HealthNet with an interest-free line of credit of approximately $10 million in order to induce HealthNet to refer its OB/GYN patients to the hospital. Under the settlement agreement, IU Health and HealthNet each paid approximately $5.1 million to the United States and $3.9 million to the State of Indiana. HealthNet also entered into a five-year corporate integrity agreement with the Department of Health and Human Services.
