Lorain County, Ohio v. Purdue Phrama et al. (Prescription Opioid Epidemic)

Lorain County, Ohio, filed a lawsuit against numerous pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors, including Cardinal Health, AmerisourceBergen, and McKesson, alleging their responsibility for the widespread availability and abuse of prescription opioid painkillers in the county. The lawsuit alleges the defendants, through “a sophisticated and highly deceptive and unfair marketing campaign” that “reverse[d] the popular and medical understanding of opioids,” helped spur the over-prescription of opioids and “opened the floodgates of opioid use and abuse,” causing a serious public health and safety crisis.
