Violations of the Quality Assurance Rule

On June 7, 2004, the Department of Energy issued a Preliminary Notice of Violation (PNOV) to McDermott subsidiary BWXT. “The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has concluded that violations of the Quality Assurance Rule (10 CFR 830.122) have occurred…DOE/NNSA recognizes that the actual radiological exposures from the SDOR event were limited from this event, with the highest worker exposure being approximately 74 mrem.” The proposed civil penalty for these violations was $82,500.
